SANTO DOMINGO, República Dominicana.- Una manifestación de mujeres este martes frente al Congreso Nacional, para exigir que el nuevo Código Penal, que se encuentra en proceso de aprobación, incluya excepciones a la penalización del aborto en varios supuestos, mostró encuestas sobre cuál es el apoyo de los dominicanos a este asunto.
Interrumpir el embarazo cuando está en peligro la vida la embarazada cuenta con un respaldo del 79%, del 76 % cuando las malformaciones del feto son incompatibles con la vida y de 67 % cuando el embarazo es fruto de violación, incesto o pederastia, según las encuestas reveladas por el Foro Feminista Magaly Pineda (FFMP) y otras organizaciones que se dieron cita hoy en el Congreso.
La Cámara de Diputados envió en agosto a una comisión especial un proyecto de ley que busca despenalizar el aborto, tras decidir que el asunto quede fuera del Código Penal y que se debata como una ley aparte más adelante.
Las manifestantes entregaron una carta dirigida al presidente de la Cámara de Diputados, Alfredo Pacheco, pidiendo que no se castigue la interrupción del embarazo en las llamadas tres causales respaldadas en las encuestas y corearon repetidamente la consiga «No queremos ley especial. Tres causales en el Código Penal».
Para la activista Sergia Galván, la ley especial «es un engaño que llevan años intentando, es una medida tramposa» para entretener a los defensores de las tres causales mientras se aprueba el Código Penal sancionando de manera absoluta la interrupción del embarazo.
La despenalización de esos supuestos «es una demanda mínima para asegurar la integridad y la dignidad de las mujeres», tal y como establece la Constitución Dominicana, dijo Galván,
Durante la actividad, las manifestantes recibieron el apoyo del diputado José Horacio Rodríguez, de Alianza País, que abandonó la sesión que se celebraba en la Cámara para unirse a ellas durante unos minutos.
Al atender a la prensa, el legislador opinó que un estado de derecho debe permitir a las mujeres, en circunstancias como las tres causales, «decidir y actuar el libertad, en base a sus creencias,» sin que el Código Penal criminalice a quien decide «no continuar con un embarazo» que se produce en alguna de esos supuestos.
En la carta dirigida a los diputados, las organizadoras del plantón advierten de que la penalización absoluta del aborto constituye una gran injustica social, un grave problema de salud pública, una violación a los derechos humanos y un acto de violencia estatal, por lo que urge una respuesta del Estado y en especial del Congreso.
También señalan que la penalización absoluta del aborto lleva a su práctica clandestina en condiciones inseguras que, muchas veces, se traduce en el fallecimiento de la madre, siendo el 13 % de las muertes maternas en el país consecuencia de abortos inseguros, principalmente en caso de mujeres que no tienen recursos económicos para pagar la atención médica adecuada.
Tras la hora que duró el plantón frente al Congreso, un grupo de integrantes de la organización ArtivismoRD pegaron huellas verdes de vinilo en el perímetro de la sede legislativa.
El Código Penal dominicano, aprobado por el Congreso Nacional en 2014, fue vetado en dos ocasiones por el expresidente de la República Danilo Medina (2012-2020), debido a que mantiene la penalización del aborto en todos los supuestos.
La República Dominicana se mantiene entre los únicos seis países de América Latina que mantiene una prohibición total del aborto junto con El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Haití y Surinam.
